Joe Cole announced his retirement from football
yesterday after 20 years as a professional.
Cole played for seven clubs throughout his two-decade
career, including spells at West Ham, Liverpool and Lille.
However, it was at Chelsea where he had his most
success, winning three Premier League title, two FA Cups and one League Cup, as
well as, Chelsea’s Player of the Year 2007-08 and a spot on the PFA Team of the
Year in 2005-06.
Cole announced his retirement via a statement which he
posted on his social media accounts, and the 37-year-old made it clear he wants to become
a coach, he said: “Looking to the future, I want to stay involved in the game. I
feel I can offer a lot as a coach and have really enjoyed the opportunity to
undertake some of these duties with the Rowdies. To lend my experience to help
other young footballers achieve their dreams, just like I did, is a big passion
of mine.”
The former England international is 11/4 to manager a
Premier League or Football League team by the end of 2019.
While, he is 33/1 and 20/1 to manage former clubs Chelsea or West Ham
by the end of 2023.
Meanwhile, following his announcement yesterday, Blues
star Eden Hazard revealed Cole played a massive part in his decision to make
the move to Stamford Bridge during his loan spell at Lille.
